The one rule

Milk belongs to the morning. A cappuccino at eight is breakfast; after lunch, Italians switch to an espresso, taken standing at the bar in under a minute. Nobody here will stop you breaking the rule, but that is the rhythm of the counter. The whole etiquette is in how to order coffee like a Neapolitan.

A coffee left waiting

Naples has a custom called caffè sospeso: someone having a good day pays for two coffees and leaves one credited at the bar for whoever comes in next and cannot afford it. It says most of what you need to know about how that city thinks about coffee.

Allergens

Ask us before you order: call (786) 536-7165 or ask at the counter, and we will tell you exactly what is in it, including cross-contact.

What to eat with it

A Cornetto al Pistacchio in the morning, a sfogliatella after nine. Want pistachio in the cup too? See our pistachio coffees.

Italian coffee, answered

Where can I get Italian espresso in Miami?

At Pistacchio Pane e Caffè, 188 NE 23rd Street in Edgewater, from 8:00 am.

What does 'un caffè' mean in Italy?

An espresso. Asking for a coffee in Italy gets you a single shot in a small cup.

What is the difference between a macchiato and a cortado?

A macchiato is an espresso with a spoonful of foamed milk, so it tastes mostly of coffee. A cortado is roughly equal parts espresso and warm milk, so it is milder.

Is it wrong to order a cappuccino after lunch?

Not here. In Italy, though, milk drinks belong to the morning, and after a meal people order an espresso.
